New tracks - 15th June, 2011
|
New tracks available to download are Silpheed from the Roland MT-32,
Dune from the Roland LAPC-I / CM-32L, Farland Story from the MT-32 /
CM-32L and
ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron from the Sega Mega Drive.
The hardware page is now up and running for those who haven't looked yet. I've taken every photo my self and added some info about each soundcard and module, although I admit there is no doubt some stuff wrong. Just to clarify something that is added to rev 3 of the page, all of my Roland MT-32, CM-32L and CM-64 recordings have a pan shift to the left by 20%. I have done this because Roland thought it would be a good idea to have centre as 20% to the right. They 'fixed' this in the CM-32P and CM-300, including the Sound Canvas modules. I'm unsure if this 'feature' is included in the third gen modules (CM-32N, LAPC-N, CM-500). Enjoy the new tracks. |
New categories! - 8th June, 2011

Cosmic-Dreams has received yet another update, and will also contain
more content - Sega Mega Drive music! I recently decided
to setup my Mega Drive again as I wanted to get some of the many games I
have recorded, re-recorded at 48KHz and in FLAC. Since emulation can't
emulate the noise the YM2612 produces, I thought I'd also provide them
here for everyone to download. These are also in FLAC and will be
recorded
from a PAL-I Sega Mega Drive that was manufactured in Japan (this one
seems to have less hiss on the audio jack than the Chinese-built one I
also have).
At the moment the only game I have uploaded is Earthworm Jim, but I
plan to get Earthworm Jim 2 uploaded in a few days since these both are
my favourite
soundtracks from the Mega Drive.
I will also be adding photos and some small descriptions of the hardware I've used to playback the music on here, so people get a better idea of what is going on behind the scenes. There's also a new 'Links' page that will obviously contain links to other websites I feel should be mentioned. Now, MIDI UPDATES! Yup, there's some new stuff on this area too. The new game is Frontier: Elite II (thanks go to Ash-Fox for reminding me that this supports the Roland LAPC-I) and the following have been re-recorded: One Step Beyond (also contains pan fixes) and Pushover. Sleepwalker as received an update - 'Zoo' and 'Lullaby' contain some fixes. 'Zoo''s percussion no longer pans hard left and stays center the entire time, while 'Lullaby' no longer has a quick-and-dirty fadeout right at the end and contains a proper 'end'. Just download the pack again to get them if you're bothered by these. Enjoy the new stuff! |
Big changes ahead - 24th May, 2011

I've decided that Cosmic-Dreams is going to have it's main purpose
changed. It isn't just for sharing Barry Leitch's
music anymore, but is for preserving retro video game music that was
played back via MIDI. I don't just record Barry's stuff,
I actually record a lot of other things from the PC, NEC PC-98 and
Sharp X68000. My main reason for doing this? Preserving history.
Eventually, all of this will be lost - the modules and sound cards
won't last forever, and I don't want the good music to be lost.
So, here is a lot of new content for everyone to enjoy - plenty of
other soundtracks from the three systems mentioned, and a special
Amiga CD32 recording from the original Ocean MIDI Editor - this being
'Sleepwalker'.
Everything on the page will be provided in FLAC, which is the best possible way to archive and preserve the music. I don't fancy having to re-upload all the tracks as Ogg Vorbis, especially with my rubbish upload speed (yay UK ISPs). All my old stuff can be found under http://cosmic-dreams.net/dreams/OLD/ if you still want to grab it. They'll eventually be re-recorded as well anyway. Enjoy the new Cosmic-Dreams! |
